During the month of November, First Baptist Winfield announced the beginning of our campaign The Vision! Our Mission.  Johnny Holbrook, Campaign Executive Director, says "With much prayer in seeking God's direction I feel very confident we are on the right track as we begin our campaign The Vision! Our Mission. This theme says what we are all about. Not a building program, not a fund-raising campaign, but we see our purpose as the challenge Jesus gave His disciples, including us, to reach others with the Gospel and to provide a nurturing Spirit-filled fellowship for us all. Very soon we will have ample space that will allow us to expand His ministry at First Baptist." Read More...

January 11, 2009

On January 11, 2009, Louis Hanks gave another of his periodoic reports to the church on the progress of the building project. At this time, the paint in the sanctuary is about 75% complete. The second floor of the Education Building is to receive one more finish coat of paint and then painting will be complete in that area.

The metal ceiling grids in the Sanctuary are roughly 80% complete, and the electrical contractor is now installing the light fixtures in the Sanctuary.

The canopy between the new building and the old Sanctuary is completed. It is intended that the construction opening  on the north side of the building will be closed up toward the end of the month, weather permitting. The exterior doors are now locked, but the building can be entered during working hours. There is also a key in the church office for use after working hours.

It is anticipated that the construction will be completed around the end of February, but there is still much work to be done after construction is finished, such as installing the furniture and fixtures, getting familiar with the electronics in the new building, etc.

The project has progressed quickly, it seems. Soon we will be worshipping in our new building. We ask you to continue to pray for our church and its people as we serve God here in Winfield.

All the doors have been purchased and are in storage, but are not hung yet. The windows are about 80% complete.
Concrete has been poured between the old sanctuary and the new building and there is no water standing after recent rains. Drainpipes from the gutters have also been installed.

Mr. Hanks encourages each member of the FBC family to continue to pray for this project and its successful completion.

Click for Larger ViewAs you can see from the photos in this report, work is progressing nicely on the new sanctuary and educational space. Louis Hanks reports that we are in our 12th month of construction of our new building. Approximately 90 % of the masonry and pre-cast concrete is completed. Roughly 90 % of the steel roof decking is finished as well. The roofing contractor is now on site and the installation of the finished roof has begun.

June 8, 2008

Louis Hanks gave an update  on the building program during both morning services on June 8, 2008. Mr Hanks reported that we are in the eleventh month of the building program. Approximately seventy per cent of the concrete blocks have been laid. About sixty per cent of the sheet metal roofing is in place. Mr. Hanks noted that the metal that is visible now will not be the final roofing material. A three-inch layer of insulation will be placed on top of the metal, and then shingles will be installed on all sloped areas of the roof. The remaining roof surface will have flexible sheet roofing.

The HVAC and electricla contractors are continuing to work inside the building. The auditorium area has been graded and is ready for the concrete to be poured as soon as the electrical contactors are finished. The stairs in the southwest corner of the building have been erected.

Click for Larger ViewThe most exciting event since the ground-breaking was the mounting of the steeple on June 5, 2008. there were many witnesses on hand to watch as the thirty-seven foot structure was hoisted atop the building. The base of the steeple is eight feet square. The steeple is made of fiberglass and has lightning protection built in to direct any lightning strikes to the ground. The structure weighs approximately two thousand pounds and reaches ninety-six feet above the street level.

The construction project is about sixty four per cent complete and we are still on schedule for completion in January, 2009.

Mr. Hanks ended his report by paying tribute to long-time member Marshall Watkins, who passed away earlier in the week. Click for Larger View"We would like to honor Marshall for his work on the Feasibility Committee. He was always faithful in his attendance at our meetings, even when he was not feeling well", Hanks stated. "Marshall's love for this church and for our Lord and Savior gave him strength. Marshall was truly a servant of God."
