Winfield First Baptist Church is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), one of the largest Protestant denominations in the United States. Our core beliefs are rooted in Evangelical Christianity and are summarized in the Baptist Faith & Message 2000, which serves as our doctrinal statement. Here are our key beliefs:
1. The Authority of Scripture
We believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God and is the final standard for faith and practice.
2. Salvation by Grace Through Faith
We believe that salvation comes by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone, not by works.
We emphasize personal conversion and a born-again experience.
3. Believer’s Baptism by Immersion
Baptism is only for those who have personally professed faith in Christ (believer’s baptism).
Baptism is done by full immersion as a symbol of death to sin and resurrection in Christ.
4. The Autonomy of the Local Church
Each Southern Baptist church is independent and self-governing, though they cooperate with the SBC for missions and ministry.
5. Priesthood of All Believers
We believe that every believer has direct access to God through Christ, without the need for a human priest.
6. Evangelism and Missions
We place a strong emphasis on spreading the Gospel and support global missionary efforts.
7. The Role of the Family
We believe in a biblical model of marriage as a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman.
Families are central to faith and discipleship.
8. End Times and the Return of Christ
We believe in the bodily return of Jesus Christ
